Lottery numbers just don’t add up

The N.C. Education Lottery has made its first payment into the Education Lottery Fund.The $95 million is in addition to $55 million that was transferred into a reserve account earlier this year. While lottery proceeds will help state and local government meet educational demands, it’s certainly no cure-all for the strain that a growing state is putting on the educational system. (more…)

Lottery share lower than expected

daily news staffCounties throughout North Carolina are starting to see some money from the state’s education lottery. Onslow County has been counting on that money to help them fulfill a promise made in June to the Onslow County Schools. Back then, the Board of Commissioners voted to give the schools an extra $3.5 million in funding partially based on $1.7 million in anticipated lottery proceeds. (more…)

An estimated $2 million jackpot

A £1.6m national lottery prize which was unclaimed by a ticket buyer in Scotland has been given to good causes. The winning ticket was bought in the Glasgow area for the jackpot-only draw on Saturday 29 April. (more…)

Lottery tickets

This is just another notch in the retail business belt. How the business world treats the consumer. They are the real crooks in all, from the gas prices to the ticket theft. Then they want us the consumer to pay an entrance fee to a simple thing as the Home Show that they just put on, (pay to see what I can sell you), with the price jacked up 100% or more in some cases. They stop other businesses like Casco from coming and they didn’t want Wal-Mart or the Home Depot here just to name a few. (more…)

Canadian Lottery Scam Hits Wilmington

 

WILMINGTON – A check came in the mail worth $2,000, with a letter saying they’d won $85,000. But Fred Sansevero and his wife thought it sounded too good to be true. The letter came Saturday from the Spanish Sweepstakes Lottery. But when the Sanseveros called the number in the letter and on the check, they got no answer and learned the numbers originated in Canada. (more…)

Stages set to collect record lottery prize

A Baileys Harbor couple are expected to step forward Monday to claim their winning Wisconsin Megabucks prize. Charles and Patricia Stage hold the jackpot ticket from the Oct. 18 drawing. The jackpot was $15.4 million, but the Stages are taking the single lump-sum cash payment of nearly $8.4 million. (more…)

Worker wins lottery on last day

n the last day of production at the Ford Motor Co. Atlanta Assembly Plant, one lucky, but soon-to-be unemployed worker won $225,000 from a Georgia Lottery scratch-off ticket. Jerome McInnis, 52, of College Park, Ga., bought the $5 ticket Friday morning when he stopped for gas before work. (more…)

Suspicious wins prompt review

Atlantic Lottery Corp. is reviewing its security policies for processing winners after a recent media report alleged that ticket retailers have won a suspicious amount of prize money in Ontario. “We just felt it would be prudent to do so in light of everything that has happened,” Mike Randall, a spokesman for Atlantic Lottery, said in an interview Friday.
